ALERT: Phishing Attempts Reported Across ENA

Posted over 4 years ago

NCENA Members,

Your 2020 NCENA Board wanted to bring your attention to an ENA-wide phishing attempt to get you to send money to a scamming group.  First, let us be clear, NCENA will never send you an email asking you to send us money.  You pay your dues to ENA (national) and that is all.  We do occasionally do fundraisers for the ENA Foundation or NCENA causes.  However, those will be advertised on our website as well so you can verify them.

What Happened?

1. A group of scammers has taken the liberty of sending emails that look like they are from the various state presidents' email.  They often have the first part of the email similar to their actual address, but the @xxxx.com part is different.  In this case, they were directed to a "------@reagan.com" address.

2. The requests are always associated with money and typically, if you reply, they ask you to send Google Play gift cards (GIANT RED FLAG) as payment.

Tips to Validate Emails:

1. We will never ask for money.  If it's asking for money, particularly in the way of gift cards, it's fake.

2. Check the entire email address it's coming from.  It will never be the correct one.

3. If it doesn't sound right, it's probably not.  Call any NCENA or Chapter board member to verify.

4. Delete the email, do not click any links, and report it.

5. Any active fundraising campaign will be posted on this website. If it's not on the website, it's not from NCENA.

We apologize for any inconvenience these phishing attempts may have caused you.  If you have any further questions, please reach out to one of the NCENA Board Members.

Thank you!

David McDonald

2020 NCENA President
